“Hearts” Sophia Moore Ceramics 1 Class of 2026 For my art show I made a heart mug, a heart dish, and a heart ornament. I made these different pieces for different reasons. One being, that I love hearts. My birthday is right around Valentine's Day, and I've just always loved hearts. I made a heart mug because my Lolly used to be really into ceramics, and I still have a mug she made that I love. So for Christmas this heart mug is going to be her present. I made it by rolling out slabs of clay, one slab thicker, one slightly thinner. I then cut a circular shape into the thicker of the slabs, and then made around 3-4 inch smaller slabs. I scored, and slipped the circle and attached the slab around. Wants the clay was slightly more dry I made the walls a heart shape. I then made, and attached, a handle. I made the heart dish because I have a lot of earrings, and necklaces, and I thought it would be cohesive with the theme. For this it was about the same process of cutting slabs. But one thing different, was I cut a heart shape out of the clay, then attached the slabs. Lasty, the ornament. Throughout my life during Christmas my family has decorated our trees. In my house we have two types, the pretty tree, and the crazy tree. The crazy tree has all of the work we’ve made in school. I made this heart to go on it. For this it was pretty simple. Roll out a slab, and cut into it. The hardest part was getting a nice heart shape. I then cut a small hole into it for string to go through. I think for my piece, I just want people to get a good feeling of love from it. It being hearts and all. Through the semester I learned the basics of ceramics, and many techniques to create unique pieces of work, and I think my pieces reflect that.
